Theatre & Cinema in The School of Performing Arts at Virginia Tech, a growing program emphasizing traditional and emerging technologies in theatre and cinema practice, fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre, seeks a dynamic, energetic, and creative theatre artist to teach graduate and undergraduate students in scenic design, projection design, scenic artistry, and related crafts. We seek a colleague with recent and continuing professional practice and an attention to detail suited to the artistry of design with an eye towards emerging trends and technologies.

Duties and responsibilities of this tenure-track position will include the design or supervision of scenic design, projection design, artistry, and props for all department productions in our annual season of events; instruction of courses and service as primary advisor on all scenic design topics, projects, and theses to graduate and undergraduate students; research suited to the candidate’s and school’s successful growth; student recruitment; service on school and university committees; occasional travel to attend conferences and meetings; and performance of additional duties as assigned by the Faculty Chair in Theatre and/or the Director of the School of Performing Arts. The successful candidate will instruct students on our productions with a hands-on approach in accordance with our individualized tutorial practice. The successful applicant will be expected to continue to work professionally and to maintain a national profile in the discipline. Initial tenure-track appointment begins in August 2023.

The School of Visual Arts (SOVA) at Virginia Tech invites applications for two full-time, one-year instructor positions in Graphic Design, effective August 2023. The successful candidates will have a Master’s degree in Graphic Design or related discipline and a proven ability to teach in the program.  Duties of each position include teaching a 3/3 course load of core Graphic Design courses (including Typography) and elective courses.

The School of Visual Arts (SOVA) at Virginia Tech invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice position to direct the school’s Armory and Mezzanine Gallery and teach classes related to exhibition design and curation. We are seeking a committed educator with practical knowledge and experience working in art galleries and exhibition spaces. The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in curatorial studies, collections management, museum studies, art history, art practice or related field, and/or extensive experience in gallery management. The successful candidate will work cooperatively with faculty and staff members, students, and other partners both internal and external to the university to provide programming and teaching in SOVA’s Armory Art Gallery and connected Mezzanine Gallery. The successful candidate will teach three classes a year. This is a calendar year/12-month appointment.

The Program of Interior Design in the School of Design at Virginia Tech invites candidates to apply for a two-year restricted appointment for a Visiting Assistant or Visiting Associate Professor to teach undergraduate courses in the Interior Design program, for the academic
years 2023-2025.

The program is part of the new School of Design, one of the four schools in the newly formed College of Architecture, Arts, and Design (AAD). The School of Design includes undergraduate programs in industrial design, interior design, and landscape architecture. The Interior Design
program currently includes 5 full-time faculty members and approximately 130 undergraduate interior design majors.

The College of Architecture, Arts, and Design at Virginia Tech seeks a highly motivated Director of Undergraduate Student Recruitment to provide support for the strategic recruitment of undergraduate students into 12 undergraduate majors. The successful candidate will be a point of contact for future and prospective first-year and transfer students and their families and serve as a liaison with key partners such as VT Undergraduate Admissions, the four schools within the college (Architecture, Design, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts), high schools, and community colleges, and more.

Staff Opportunities

Reporting to the Business Manager for both the School of Architecture and the School of Design, the Fiscal Technician assists with all aspects of fiscal management primarily for the School of Architecture. Duties include budget monitoring, reconciliation, and reporting; purchasing and accounts payable; accounts receivable; travel; wage payroll reconciliation; wage hiring; management of fiscal assets; data gathering and preparation of ad hoc financial reports; and the assistance with other financial and administrative duties as requested. This role will also cross-train with the Fiscal Technician for the School of Design and, working as a collaborative member of the college’s fiscal team, provide support to the faculty and staff of that school as business needs require.

The School of Visual Arts (SOVA) in the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design (AAD) and the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) are seeking a full-time Makerspace Manager to oversee operations of the Creativity and Innovation District's (CID) Living-Learning Community (LLC) Makerspace. This state-of-the-art fabrication facility serves both the School of Visual Arts and the LLCs housed within the CID building. The Makerspace encompasses 5 distinct areas: a Woodshop, Metalshop, Digital Fabrication/Print Studio, CNC Milling/Routing Studio, and a large general use workspace. The position is jointly supervised by the director of SOVA and ICAT’s Building Operations Coordinator.
