Explore opportunities in AAD through our four schools.

To see the diversity in the programs of study, career paths, and hands-on experiences our college offers, look no further than its four schools. Whether you're an aspiring architect or actor or you're hoping to find your path in the arts, AAD schools offer an abundance of opportunity to turn these aspirations into reality.

Each school hosts its own unique culture, student experience, learning enrichment opportunities (like internships and study abroad), and student organizations.

Cultivating a Design Sense through Dialogue and Practice

The Virginia Tech School of Architecture offers professionally-accredited degree programs in architecture. In addition, the school offers research-oriented graduate programs that lead to master's and Ph.D. degrees.

The architecture programs at Virginia Tech strive to create an environment where each student’s unique abilities and capacities can be activated, while challenging students with the standards of excellence and achievement that are inherent in their chosen discipline. The school's professional programs are studio-based and offer direct opportunities to study and intern in Chicago, San Francisco, and Alexandria, VA, as well several locations in Europe, including the Steger Center for International Scholarship in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland.

Empowering Talented, Imaginative, and Diverse Artists and Scholars

In the Virginia Tech School of Visual Arts, creativity meets scholarship, hands-on learning, and technology, in a blend unique to Virginia Tech. SOVA offers an expansive undergraduate education in studio art, art history, graphic design, and creative technologies, as well as a master's of fine arts in creative technologies and a cross-disciplinary master of arts degree in material culture and public humanities.

The school prepares students to enter professions and graduate programs in the visual arts, design, and visual culture. SOVA fosters improvement and advances in facilities, equipment, and critical technologies for students and faculty. The school also serves the public sector through events, exhibitions, internships, competitions, workshops, and courses that nourish and renew the vitality of art and design.

School of Performing Arts

Delivering uncommon experiences and unexpected opportunities

The School of Performing Arts brings creativity and a very personal touch to our work. We have nearly 80 creative faculty and staff members.  Many of them are nationally and internationally known and maintain active careers in their field, including performance, composition, design, and filmmaking.

We have extraordinary facilities for our performances. In fact, our programs are located in Virginia Tech’s Creativity and Innovation District, a section of campus that includes 11 performance spaces within a three-block area. These venues range from the 1,300-seat Moss Arts Center to the 101-seat experimental theatre called Theatre 101.
